Mattel To Feature More Diverse Barbies

SACRAMENTO (CBS Sacramento) -- Barbie is getting an upgrade as Mattel will now feature 23 Barbies that will have different color hair, skin tones, face shapes, eye color and hair color, according to CNN.

These Barbies -- which will be rolled out through October -- will show more diversity and different styles.

Other "real-life" dolls have begun showing up.

Debbie Sterling, founder of GoldieBox, began her company through Kickstarter in 2012 to get girls excited about different careers.

Sterling's creation "Goldie" is a girl is an action figure that ziplines and wants to show little girls to be courageous and adventurous.

"We hope that Goldie and her friends provide a vital way to see all the different things girls can be, and are inspiring examples for girls and boys alike," Sterling said.

Angelica Sweeting noticed that her daughter at a young age struggled with what "beauty" was.

She created the Angelica Doll to help young girls of color.

"Beauty comes in so many colors, and the Angelica Doll was created to help open the eyes of young girls to the complete spectrum of beauty," she said.

In January, Mattel introduced Barbies with movable ankles so she can be comfy in heels or flats for different occasions.
