Board Considers $49.5 Million In California Tax Credits

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A state board will consider offering a $15 million tax credit to electric vehicle-maker Tesla Motors in exchange for hiring 4,400 workers in California.

The credit is one of 63 totaling $49.5 million. The companies applied for them and Gov. Jerry Brown's GO-Biz agency is recommending them.

The Tesla credit would offset taxes for the Fremont, California.-based company to buy manufacturing, research and development equipment, buy property and hire 4,400 workers. It comes after California lost out in a heated bidding war for the company's new battery plant.

The board of California Competes will consider granting the award Thursday. In all, the eligible companies are promising to create more than 11,000 jobs.
