Crooks Target Roseville Dance Studio, Steal Equipment Before Show

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — Brazen crooks targeted a local dance studio, turning out the lights on a performance slated for next week.

Employees at the Dance Gallery 2 Studio in Roseville say thousands of dollars worth of equipment used for their performance is now gone.

The studio has been around for more than two decades, and this is the second time it's been hit by thieves. For 24 years, the Roseville studio has shined with thousands of performing stars.

The audience is usually entertained with well-trained, energized students dancing to heart-pounding music and a spectacular light show.

"The show is gone," said Lucy McLemore. "Between $15,000 and $20,000 of equipment will have to be replaced."

She's known to generations of students as Miss Lucy. She says her husband was loading the equipment into a truck when he stepped inside for a minute. Criminals drove up in another truck to steal the equipment. That's when he heard the commotion.

"He jumped into his truck to at least get a license plate but they were too far ahead," she said.

To make matters worse, she says they have a major performance set for next week in Citrus Heights.

"It broke my heart at the rehearsal to have to tell the children and the parents that the equipment is gone for the show," she said.

The equipment is not easily replaced.

"We're going to do our best to do it manually, but the show must go on," she said.

The equipment was insured, but it can't be replaced in time for the show. the dance gallery's parents association is now taking donations hoping to replace the equipment before next week.
