Authorities Identify Teen Shot And Killed At Party In Rancho Cordova

RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) – Authorities have identified a teen who was shot and killed at a party on Sunday morning.

When police arrived at the scene of the large, loud party in the 3600 block of Sarament Court, they found 17-year-old Joseph Burrola of Rio Linda unconscious. He was later pronounced dead at the scene, say police.

Police say they were first called to the scene to break up the party just before midnight. Officers say about 100 people were in attendance. Just after 2 a.m., officers say they were called to the scene again after reports about a large fight and gunshots.

Police later learned that two other people were shot at the party and were driven to the hospital. One of those victims, a man in his 20s, had to undergo immediate surgery due to a life-threatening gunshot wound. The other man's injury is not life-threatening.

Two other people were injured in the fight and were taken to the hospital.

Detectives believe the shooting happened after a large group of people returned to the party after being told to leave by officers. At some point after coming back, the group turned violent and the fight escalated to a shooting.

Investigators are asking anyone attendees of the party who may have seen the fight to call detectives at (916) 874-5115.
