Meet The Sacramento Boy Who Beat DeMarcus Cousins 1-On-1

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A Sacramento boy who beat Sacramento Kings All-Star DeMarcus Cousins one-on-one spoke to CBS13.

The size of this boy's body is no measure of his heart and determination. To watch Elijah Covington, 11, play basketball is to wonder just how bright his future is.

"I love it man, its part of my life man," he said.

The expectations are giant now that he just beat a giant, or rather, a King. In a one-on-one game against 7-foot-tall Kings Center DeMarcus Cousins captured on video, you can see he's fearless. With the score tied, he dribbled the ball between Cousins' legs and laid one in for a go-ahead basket. The crowd went wild.

"That was fun," he said. "That was a fun moment.

CBS13 caught up with Elijah at his home where he practices in the driveway every day.

"I play with my heard and I play with my heart so I can outsmart you," he said. So actually being smaller is an advantage to me.

When asked if he's not dreaming of being 6-5 someday, he said, "No, but my doctor did tell me I wont be shorter than 5-10.

His mom says he'd stay out practicing all night if he could. Papa is proud and thankful Cousins played with his son.

"I've been trying to reach out to you man just to shake your hand and to tell you thank you so much for what you've done to him in regards to giving him inspiration and encouragement," Michael Covington said.

It was just a game between a boy and a star.

"I was playing against the No. 1 center in the league," he said.

It's left the boy stepping out of a shadow to shine bright. He'll be a seventh-grader next year and says he hopes to one day play basketball at Cal before playing in the NBA.
