Anonymous Tip Leads To One Of Largest Illegal Fireworks Bust In Sacramento Region History

FAIR OAKS (CBS13) — An anonymous tip led fire investigators to one of the largest illegal fireworks busts in the region's history.

Thousands of pounds of consumer and professional grade fireworks were found sitting in a home in a quiet Fair Oaks neighborhood.

Sac Metro Fire investigator Steve Johnson says the massive caches was found on Copley Court in Fair Oaks, and were being sold by John J.D. Guill, a convicted felon.

Neighbors say Guill never caused problems, but they're grateful to know the explosives have been removed. They know that much gunpowder stored together is a recipe for disaster.

"He was selling them in mass quantities," Johnson said. "Had we gotten there a couple days sooner, he said we would have had triple the amount of fireworks."

While some of the products are sold to the public in other states, others are professional grade, making them that more dangerous.

Metro Fire says anyone who may have bought some of the fireworks from Guill or elsewhere can surrender them at any fire station, no questions asked.
