SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) – A grass fire burned more than 300 acres near Rancho Murieta early Thursday morning.

The scene is near Dillard and Meiss Roads, south of Jackson Highway and the Rancho Murieta golf course.

Crews were first alerted to smoke in the area just after 1:30 a.m. Thursday. Firefighters from five different teams were soon helping in fighting the flames.

The fire was contained just before 6 a.m. after it had burned about 355 acres.

Investigators believe the fire may have originated from a car parked next to a fence in the area or from a lightning strike.
