Firefighter Injured, 5 Sheds Burned In Fire Near Rio Linda

RIO LINDA (CBS13) – A grass fire near Rio Linda damaged numerous sheds and injured a firefighter Saturday evening.

The scene is near 18th and I Streets in the Rio Linda area. Crews showed up at the scene just before 7 p.m. and reported that multiple structures were threatened by the flames.

Crews contained the fire by 8 p.m., saving three homes.

Michelle Eidam with Sacramento Metro Fire says five sheds were damaged by the fire, along with 10 vehicles. A total of 5-6 acres was burned.

One reserve firefighter was injured in the fire fight, Eidam says, but the extent of the injuries has not been disclosed.

Eidam notes that the fire was especially challenging for crews as there were a lot of outbuildings firefighters needed to protect.

Sunday, authorities confirmed that the fire was caused by illegal fireworks. Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area is asked to call investigators at (916) 859-3775.
