Illegal Fireworks Likely To Blame For Massive Fire At Sacramento Home

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The concern for firefighters wasn't the professional stuff, it's the uncontrolled illegal fireworks that launch in the air and ignite massive fires.

Incredible cell phone video captured giant orange flames billowing into the air, torching a backyard in seconds and spreading to the house

"I was about 30 feet away," said Antany Khamphay, who recorded the video. "Smoke was just traveling through the whole neighborhood."

He says he saw quick thinking homeowners using hoses to put out the flames.

Their kids say they escaped after hearing an explosion in the backyard.

"This is a three dollar firework that caused seventy thousand dollars in damage," said fire victim Neal Agnos.

Investigators say a stray Fourth of July firework landed in their backyard.

The blaze took out tall trees, a shed, plastic trash cans, a gutter – and hard to believe, only part of the garage.

They consider themselves lucky.

"They were getting ready for bed. If it had been just a little bit later, I can't even imagine," said neighbor William Caves.
