Manteca Police Searching For Suspect In Teen's Shooting

MANTECA (CBS13) — Manteca Police are looking for the person who shot and killed a 15-year-old boy through a screen door on the Fourth of July.

Antonio Brown's family describes him as a good student and a high-school athlete.

Manteca Police aren't sure if someone inside the home was targeted, or if he was simply the victim of a stray bullet.

Debra Brown still can't believe her grandson is gone.

"It's just been really hard on everybody," she said. "Antonio was a really good kid."

The 15-year-old was shot and killed in the early morning hours on Saturday. Investigators say the shooting happened around 4 a.m. while the teen was visiting friends at a home off of West Yosemite Avenue.

"At some point he opened up the front door and was shot," said Manteca Police spokeswoman Jodie Estarziao. "It does not sound like there was any type of an altercation or anything that pre-empted this incident."

A small bullethole is still visible through the screendoor of the house. Manteca Police say one of more suspects fired a shot from outside the home that hit Brown in the chest. Police arrived a short time later.

"They immediately started life-saving efforts on him; unfortunately he didn't make it," she said.

Brown says her grandson was going into his sophomore year at East Union High School where he was an honor roll student and played on the baseball team.

"We don't know if he was the target or if he just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time," she said. "He didn't deserve this, and I hope they catch the person that did this because they can't be doing this to people. It's just not right."
