Dead Dog Discovered Inside Of BBQ In Elk Grove, Man Arrested

ELK GROVE (CBS13) – A dog was found dead inside of a BBQ in a suspected case of animal cruelty.

The incident happened in Elk Grove Wednesday night. Elk Grove Police say they were called to the 8900 block of Paulhaus Way after someone reported seeing a man in a yard beating his dog.

Officers who soon responded to the scene immediately spotted smoke and heard fire alarms at the house. The officers called the man to come out, but he instead decided to run – leading officers on a chase through a few backyards before he was finally arrested.

Police later searched the home and discovered the body of a dog inside of a BBQ. The dog, believed to be either a Chihuahua or Beagle, had obvious signs of trauma.

The man, whose identity is not being released at this time, also looked to have set a fire on a stove inside the home, police say.

Officers have taken the man into custody and he is expected to be booked on charges of animal cruelty, attempted arson and resisting arrest, but he is first being treated at a hospital for injuries he sustained while running from police.
