Man Impales Himself While Climbing Unlocked Gate At Apartment Complex

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A man looking for empty cans got something he didn't bargain while climbing a fence at a Sacramento apartment complex.

The incident happened at Campus Commons apartments on Saturday morning. Witnesses say the man, who was collecting recyclables at the time, was running on Cadillac Drive when he attempted to jump over a closed gate and was impaled through the calf by a spike on top of the fence.

Rescuers cut a section out of the gate where the man was hanging and transported him and the segment of fence to the hospital.

It's unknown why the man was running away. He left a cart of recyclables.

The fence was apparently unlocked.
