Chemical Spill In South Modesto Closes Northbound Lanes Of Highway 99

MODESTO (CBS13) - A big rig crash and chemical spill has forced the closure of all northbound lanes of Highway 99 in Modesto.

Traffic is being diverted from the highway at Mitchell Road, then to up to Briggsmore Avenue and back onto Highway 99.

The accident happened at around 7:30 a.m. near Hatch Road. A big rig headed south on Highway 99 struck the back of a small truck and ended up on its side in the northbound lanes. It spilled 41 one-gallon jugs of muriatic acid.

No one was injured in the crash.

Nearby homes have not been evacuated.

CHP estimates the road will reopen between 2:30-3:30 p.m.
