Rocklin Delays Vote On Parking Permits Near Whitney High School

ROCKLIN (CBS13) — Neighbors across from Whitney High School say they're tired of not having a place to park during the school year as students park in their neighborhood.
The Rocklin City Council pushed back a decision on Tuesday whether to put a parking permit program in place in the neighborhood until the next meeting in two weeks.
On school days, residents on Abilene Circle say all the parking is taken up by students' cars
"You have students that park in between. they'll block your driveway somewhat," said Beth McLean.
She says it's so bad at times, she can't get out of her driveway for work in the morning. And she's not alone.
At Tuesday's meeting, police say people who live on Abilene and Stageline circles have been complaining about students crowding their streets for three years.
The City Council considered a plan to require cars parked on the streets from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays to have a permit.
Most residents spoke in favor, while some said homeowners made the decision to move next to a high school and should live with the consequences.
Paul Camky, who lives nearby, felt such a program would punish homeowners.
"I don't feel the onus be placed on the owners as opposed to the students who are parking where they aren't supposed to be," he said.
It's not that there aren't enough spaces on campus, or that student parking permits at $15 are too expensive. Students are parking on the residential streets because they're just feet away from their classrooms.
While that may make it easier for students to get to class, McLean says it's been tough for her to park outside her home.
