Third Child Shot In Sacramento Area In Just Over A Week

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A 10-year-old girl is expected to survive after being shot twice in the driveway of her grandmother's Sacramento home.

The shooting just past 2 p.m. on Tuesday is the third in recent weeks that have injured children. Just over a week ago, two shootings happened in different parts of the city that injured two children.

Witnesses said Tuesday's shooting happened when a suspect fired into a group of people where there were several children present.

"When you shooting up kids it's going too far, it's going too far," the victim's grandmother said.

Sharelle Walton, 10, is recovering from two gunshot wounds to her lower body. Her grandmother told CBS13 what happened, but she didn't want to show her face on camera in case the suspect returns.

"The guy came back and he shot through the garage, and he shot my grandbaby, hit her two times in the leg," she said. "Shot a hole, blew up my dryer, hit my daughter's car and after we ran in the house there was all kinds of blood on the floor."

Walton was shot while she and several family members were hanging out in the garage of a home off of Bamford Drive. Police say the suspect walked up to the group and fired several times, hitting the 10-year-old.

"This was like a sneak attack more or less," her grandmother said. "Why they did it to my house I have no idea."

Sacramento Police say two other children were hurt in shootings just over a week ago. Two adults and a child were shot in Phoenix park off of Franklin Boulevard in South Sacramento on July 13, and a 12-year-old girl was shot in Del Paso Heights while she was sitting in a car.

Police have no suspect descriptions in any of the shootings.
