Loomis At Center Of International Dispute Between U.S., China

LOOMIS (CBS13) — A reported diplomatic dispute between the United States and China seems to be centered on Loomis.

The Chinese media is staking out the home that once belonged to Sacramento Kings player Beno Udrih. The New York Times reports the man who lives in the home is a rich and powerful Chinese national who is possibly defecting to avoid a China government corruption investigation.

Theresa Kandris says she's never seen her neighbor.

"I'm shocked that here in little old Loomis, that we have something like this going on, but I dont want to have an opinion, I've never met them," she said.

The case of international intrigue starts in the Shanxi province of China, west of the Taihang Mountains and is now centered in Loomis.

The New York Times reports Ling Wancheng moved to Loomis and bought a home under a different name, and that he's possibly defecting and holding embarrassing Chinese government secrets.

He's wanted in a corruption investigation after his brother was arrested on corruption charges as the top aide to the former president Hu Jintao.

It's a case of high-stakes diplomacy bringing two sides of the world, now centered in Loomis.
