Sacramento Republic Wants Fan Input On Future MLS Stadium In Downtown

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The Sacramento Republic is looking for the community's input on a proposed Major League Soccer Stadium.

Fans have played a role in the Republic brand and its crest. Now they'll have a say in the team's future home.

Want craft beer or live music at the stadium? Now's your chance to speak up.

Republic executives say they want to create a match experience like no other at the proposed Downtown Sacramento stadium that would be build if and when the team is awarded a MLS franchise.

"The mock-ups that most fans might see right now are just placeholders. that is not what the final stadium will probably look like at all," said spokeswoman Erika Bjork.

The team is asking fans to help fill in the details.

"Everything from maybe what kind of food and beer they want to see, to how they want to enter the stadium, to how close they want to be to the pitch," she said.

Fans at Kombat Soccer in south Land Park already have ideas.

"I think what they should focus on is the parking, the transportation," said manager Michael Smith.

The Republic is asking people to fill out online surveys, and people can then volunteer for public workshops that will start as soon as next week.

This round of fan involvement will continue for a few months. The MLS is expected to have an expansion plan by the end of the year.

"When MLS is ready, and they basically have made that announcement, we don't want to wait another year to put a shovel in the ground. we want to be ready to go," Bjork said.
