Sacramento Man, 22, Identified As Marine Who Died After Hike At Camp Lejeune

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Officials have identified the Marine who died after collapsing during a training hike at Camp Lejeune on the North Carolina coast.

Local media outlets report that the Marine Corps on Saturday released the name of 22-year-old Corporal Alexis Aaron Alcaraz of Sacramento, California.

Officials say Alcaraz lost consciousness early Thursday during the hike and was pronounced dead at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune.

Alcaraz served with the 1st Battalion, 8th Marines. Officials say Alcaraz was a decorated active-duty Marine who also had served in San Diego, Camp Pendleton, California, Twentynine Palms, California and Okinawa, Japan. He had been at Camp Lejeune less than a year.
