Health Warning Due To Smoky Air Remains In Effect For Sacramento Region

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A health warning remains in effect across the Sacramento region due to the smoky skies.

A layer of gray smoke could be seen across Sacramento yesterday. Air quality officials say it's due to winds that have shifted, blowing smoke from north forest fires burning in the northern part of the state into the Sacramento Valley.

People are advised to avoid outdoor activities and keep doors and windows closed.

"When it comes to breathing smoke, everyone is a sensitive group. There is no safe level of smoke to breathe. It's just unhealthy period. So if you can see or smell smoke you want to remove yourself from the situation," said Jamie Arno, a spokesperson for Sacramento Air Quality District.

San Juan and Elk Grove school districts have also issued smoke and heat alerts to teachers and coaches. So far there have been no official bans on outdoor activities.

The smoke advisory continues through the end of the day.
