Final Fantasy VII Released On iOS App Store

By Kyle Buis

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — One of the most popular Japanese role-playing games of all time has made its way to the iPhone.

Final Fantasy VII was released late on Wednesday by Square-Enix. It is based on the PC port of the 1997 game pitting a group of separatists against a corporation focused on draining the life out of the world. There's also some stuff about a villain with mommy issues and a giant rock that's supposed to fall in two weeks, but really just waits for the protagonists to stop breeding chocobos. Also, something happens to Aeris.

For those excited about the recently announced remake of the game, this isn't it. The remake for the PlayStation 4 and PC currently has no release date, and will likely coincide with the graduation of this year's class of high-school freshmen.

The price tag for the game may catch some by surprise. At $15.99, it falls in line with Square-Enix's other iOS releases, but tops $11.99 for the same game on Steam and the company's own PC gaming storefront. Whether portability is worth an extra $4 is up to users.
