Good Samaritan Killed While Trying To Help Stalled Driver

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Someone trying to be a Good Samaritan lost their life in a crash on Interstate 80 early Wednesday morning.

The incident happed on eastbound I-80 just west of Norwood Avenue just after 2:30 a.m., California Highway Patrol says.. A car had run out of gas and stalled in the westbound express lanes. Another driver stopped on the eastbound side to help that driver get some gas.

Soon after dropping the driver back off after getting gas, the Good Samaritan was rear-ended by another on-coming car. The Good Samaritan's car then burst into flames, killing them.

According to CHP, the driver who rear-ended the Good Samaritan's car was an off-duty police officer.

The Good Samaritan killed in the crash has not been identified.

Lanes of I-80 were closed through much of the early morning but reopened a little after 5 a.m.
