Sacramento-Based App Will Play Key Role In Super Bowl Promotion

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Sports fans have a chance to take part in a unique experience ahead of Super Bowl 50 in February.

A Sacramento-based app will play a big role in a Bay Area scavenger hunt.

Event organizer Bridgett Coates says the Super Fan Chase will be similar to the CBS show "The Amazing Race." Teams will race to different locations, collecting clues and prizes along the way. Celebrities and sports stars will show up at locations that span across seven Bay Area counties.

"They're going to be signing autographs; they're going to be meet-and-greet, taking photos and just having a good time like the rest of the sports fans," she said.

The chase is partnering with a Sacramento-based app called Wimzr. It connects people heading to concerts, sports, conferences or other events.

"Anybody that's associated with the event can now connect into an open forum, or they can connect one-on-one with each other in the event," said CEO Blake Mori.

He says contestants can buy tickets to the chase, then use the app to help them navigate.

"Anybody that's a contestant in this is gonna be able to use Wimzr in the open forum to connect with the destination, they can connect with the administrators to get maybe information about where to go if they're getting lost," he said.

The team with the sharpest wit and fastest time wins a VIP viewing experience of the Super Bowl, though organizers won't say if that means tickets to the actual came.

The chase is from Feb. 3 to 6 and costs $50 for each teammate to register.
