Women Sought In San Joaquin Delta College Assault

By Kelly Ryan

STOCKTON (CBS13) — Police are on the search for two women accused in the brutal beating of a Stockton college student.

The victim was walking to class at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton when it happened.

It was just before 8 a.m. Tuesday when a female student walking to class on this sidewalk was suddenly attacked from behind.

Campus police say the female student was just yards from the San Joaquin Delta College campus when two women walking in front of her suddenly turned and, once past her, attacked.

"The girls were literally treating her literally treating her like a ragdoll throwing her in the air with the leverage from the backpack at one point she landed halfway in the street," said officer Jim Bock.

Police believe the student was targeted for her backpack and iPhone.

It wasn't until a witness pulled up and started slamming on the horn and yelling at them to stop that they finally stopped around and ran to the backside of Carter's Pet mart.

Nearby security cameras caught the suspects, one described as a black female adult with dark hair wearing a pink tank top and glasses the other a black female adult with long dark hair held up in a scarf wearing a gray tank top and camouflage pants.

On just the second day of the fall schedule, students on campus are taking precautions to stay safe.

The victim is recovering with bruises and a leg injury.

Police say they're confident they will find the suspects and are going through more video surveillance which will help them locate the vehicle that sped off.
