Walk Of Fame Considered For Downtown Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A Hollywood-style walk of fame may soon be coming to Sacramento's streets as an effort is underway to raise money and compile a list of names that could be added.

Lucy Eidam Crocker is taking steps to create the project similar to the one in Hollywood.

"It is a way of celebrating people who have given a significant contribution to the Sacramento community," she said.

The terrazzo tile stars would be embedded in downtown and Midtown sidewalks and feature notable local names.

"I think that's a great idea, we have a lot of local talent here that people don't know about," said resident David Perdue.

Nearby restaurants and shops are hoping the increased foot traffic from the stars will twinkle down to their businesses.

"If it does so well in Hollywood it might be a positive impact for us too," said Sara Arbabian, the owner of The Rind.

"Anything to actually stimulate some interest in what's going on in Sacramento is probably a great thing," said Broadrick Road House owner Chris Jarosz.

The money for each $8,000 tile would come from donations and fundraisers. No taxpayer money would be used.

The Sacramento City Council is scheduled to vote on the idea next Tuesday. Names would be selected by a volunteer board of directors and would have to be approved by city leaders before being placed in the sidewalks.
