Local Company Looking For Ways To Put Spirit Of Sacramento In A Box

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A local company is trying to put the best things about Sacramento inside a box.

Justin Wandro is shipping iconic items from the capital city around the world.

"The thought was, I love a lot of things about Sacramento; how do I take those things and put them into a box? How do I bottle Sacramento?" he said.

There are some things that make the city special, and he wants to make sure anyone, anywhere can experience it.

"It's a great going-away present," he said. "You can kind of get a last taste of Sacramento before they leave. But it's also on the flipside really great for someone new to Sacramento."

He's the founder of The Sacramento Box, a gift box that's full of Sacramento style. Wandro says he got the idea from a similar concept in Baltimore.

The box offers some Sacramento staples like Blue Diamond Almonds, Sacramento River Cats gear or a River City Soda. From the familiar to some favorite hidden gems like fresh fortune cookies from the New World Baking Company.

"It's this little teeny hole-in-the-wall place that almost nobody knows about, but they have the best fresh fortune cookies," he said. "Sacramento has a lot of things too big to fit in a box like the tower bridge so we scrunch them down and throw them into some nice iconic postcards of Sacramento."

The gift comes with some give-back. Every purchase will also donate a meal to a Sacramento resident in need.

"We have some amazing programs like Loaves & Fishes that the community comes together, and that should be reflected in the box," he said.

He's always looking for more suggestions what to put inside the box.
