Top 5 Fantasy Players: San Francisco 49ers

With the NFL regular season starting on September 10, there isn't much time left to complete your fantasy drafts.

In recent years, the San Francisco 49ers had some quality fantasy players on the team, but this year things are going to be different.

There isn't a single player on the team who should be a guaranteed starter each week, but there are still some quality players to put on your fantasy roster.

Here are the top five fantasy players for San Francisco:

5. San Francisco Defense

The Niners lost a lot of defensive pieces to free agency, retirement and suspensions this offseason, but they still have some quality players.

Players like NaVorro Bowman, Darnell Dockett and Eric Reid will attempt to hold the defense together.

The Niners defense isn't one you should make a point to draft like you would have in years past, but if all other top quality defenses are off the board in the late rounds, you may want to take a flyer on San Francisco.

If the Niners are not drafted, they could be a good mid-season pick up during your defense's bye week.

4. Vernon Davis - TE

Throughout his career, Davis has shown the potential to be one of the best tight-ends in the league. Last year, he had one of the worst seasons of his career with just 245 yards and two touchdowns.

If you need a backup tight-end, Davis is a quality guy to keep on the bench.

It's smart to have players on your bench who have the potential to have a breakout season, and that's exactly what Davis provides.

He is worth the pick up in a later round, just make sure you don't rely on Davis to have the season he had two seasons ago.

3. Anquan Boldin - WR

The veteran wide-out is looking to have a third consecutive 1,000 yard receiving year for the Niners.

Boldin isn't the type of receiver to rack up a large number of touchdowns, but he will earn points through yardage gained.

At this point in his career, and with the inconsistencies of his quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, Boldin is a borderline WR3.

2. Torrey Smith - WR

The newly-aquired wide receiver had a career-low in yardage last year with 767, but a career high in touchdowns with 11.

Smith will be a good target for Kaepernick. He can stretch the field, and with Kaepernick's strong arm, the deep ball should be a weapon for the Niners' offense.

Depending on the matchup, Smith can reach WR2 status, but should be kept around WR3 for most of the season.

1. Carlos Hyde - RB

With Frank Gore leaving the team to sign with the Indianapolis Colts, Hype will be the feature back in San Francisco.

Last season, Hyde showed signs of being a power back. He scored four touchdowns while getting limited touches.

Hyde hasn't proven to be a RB1 at this point in his career, but he is definitely worth a start at a RB2 position.

The 24-year-old running back is not a must-have, but if he happens to be on the board in the middle rounds, he has a lot of potential to have a big fantasy year.
