Davis Ordinance Requiring Healthier Drink Options On Kid's Menus Pushed Back To Sept. 18

DAVIS (CBS13) — A new Davis ordinance has city leaders assuming the role of parents as they encourage kids to have certain drinks in restaurants.

The rule was supposed to take effect on Tuesday, but it's been pushed back until Sept. 18.

The ordinance would require restaurants to offer water or milk as a first option if they offer a kid's meal. Parents can request soda if they want and the business won't be penalized if they serve it.

"I think it's a great idea to offer healthier options for kids first before we put soda in front of them," said Davis resident Trisha Martin.

The ordinance was supposed to begin on Sept. 1, but a city spokesman says the needed more time to get their ducks in a row. The city is giving businesses two more weeks to get ready.
