Former Australian Rugby Star Jarryd Hayne Active For San Francisco 49ers Season Opener

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - Former Australian Rugby League star Jarryd Hayne is active for San Francisco's season opener against Minnesota, putting the rookie return man is position to make his NFL debut.

The 49ers provided plenty of hints during the lead up to Monday night's game at Levi's Stadium that Hayne might not play, given he didn't even lead the team in punt returns during an impressive preseason that landed him a spot on the 53-man roster. He worked with the scout team at least part of the time during the week.

Active for their respective comebacks are Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman - Peterson following paid leave and then a suspension last year in the fallout from a child-abuse case against him in Texas; Bowman from a frightening left knee injury in the NFC championship game at Seattle in January 2014 that required surgery.
