Authorities: Person Killed In Butte Fire

CALAVERAS COUNTY (CBS13) – Authorities say a person has died in the Butte Fire.

The Calaveras County Sheriff confirmed that a fatality had occurred in the fire, but they have not released any more information on exactly where, when or how it happened.

Most mandatory evacuations for the Butte Fire were downgraded Wednesday to advisories. As of Wednesday morning, the fire had burned 71,780 acres in Amador and Calaveras counties and is up to 45 percent containment.

Cal Fire said that the Butte Fire is the 14th most-destructive wildfire in California history. More than 200 homes have been destroyed.
