Man Gets 8 Years In Prison For Honey Oil Lab Explosion At Rancho Cordova Apartment

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A man was sentenced Friday to eight years in prison for causing the January 2014 explosion that rocked a Rancho Cordova apartment complex.

On August 20, 2015 a jury convicted Wade Stevenson, 47, of manufacturing concentrated cannabis and recklessly burning an inhabited structure. Around 5:30 a.m. on January 22, Wade was making honey oil in the bathroom of a ground-floor apartment on Mills Tower Road when the chemicals exploded and blew out a large section of wall and several windows.

Dozens of firefighters converged on the apartments and put out the resulting fire. While working at the apartment, a firefighter also received a minor injury.

The explosion resulted in the structural damage to the building. That, as well as water, gas and electricity having to be turned off, resulted in 146 residents being forced to leave their apartment units.
