KELSEYVILLE, Calif. (AP) - A new report details the harrowing ordeal four Northern California firefighters trapped by a fast-moving blaze endured before their rescue.

The CalFire report said the four firefighters were dropped off by helicopter on the afternoon of Sept. 12 to protect several building from a wildfire that would grow to more than 100 square miles and kill four people in rural Lake County, about 120 miles north of San Francisco.

The report says the four were soon surrounded by the fire and sought shelter near a metal garage, deploying their portable fire shelters and issuing an emergency mayday call over the radio. The four were rescued a short-time later and airlifted to a hospital with burns.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reported Sunday that two firefighters remained hospitalized.
