Sharks Name Pavelski Team Captain

The San Jose Shakes did something they hadn't done since 2013: name a team captain.

Granted, former head coach Todd McClellan chose four alternate captains last year, but non wore a 'C'. Now that Peter DeBoer is head coach, the first thing he did after finalizing the roster Sunday was chose a team captain Monday morning.

The team voted on their favorite guys to represent the team, and after spending the last nine seasons in the shadows of Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau, Pavelski has finally established himself as the top leader in the locker room.

DeBoer also announced Logan Couture and Joe Thornton as the alternate captains - finishing out a traditional group of one captain and two alternate captains per team.

Pavelski is no surprise as the top choice - he led the team in goals and points the last two seasons and has become a American star when international play comes around. Once known as "Little Joe," Pavelski is now the big man on the team.
