River Cats Unveil 'Sac Town' Alternate Jerseys

The Sacramento River Cats have packed their bags and gone home following another year of Pacific Coast League baseball, but with their major league team affiliate being the San Francisco Giants, they announced the latest alternate jersey to be used next season.

It's obvious the new threads pay homage to the city of San Francisco with the Golden Gate bridge outlined in a state of California, but the words across the front and the tower bridge outline stay true to the city of Sacramento.

The River Cats are still using their primary uniforms throughout most of the season, with the black and maroon jerseys, but these new ones will be worn every Friday home game. The Giants have a similar orange jersey they only wear on "Orange Fridays" at each home games, tying together the two organizations even further.

Long time River Cats graphic designer Mike Villarreal put together the new jerseys, telling CSN Bay Area, "We had a chance to make something totally new, and we wanted to do something that would capture the Sac pride and feeling."

After witnessing the best attendance in the PCL last year (the first year being affiliated with the Giants), the Giants fan base is clearly represented at each River Cats home game. This jersey may attract even more fans for next season.

"Obviously it has a Giants influence with the colors and the bridge," Villarreal said. "But our focus was on making something unique to Sac that people would be proud to wear."

The jerseys plan on being unveiled on a baseball field March 30, 2016 in a Giants exhibition game.
