Fall Furnace: Record-Breaking Highs Possible In Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto Today

Temperatures hit a new record in Stockton on Monday, reaching 95 degrees. The old record of 93 was set in 2004. Modesto also had a record high temperature of 94 degrees. The old record of 92 was set in 1992.

Temperatures will once again be about 15 degrees above normal Tuesday, with highs expected to hit the mid-90s this afternoon.

Here are the record high temperatures that could fall Tuesday:

• Sacramento 94 in 1991
• Stockton 95 in 1978
• Modesto 93 in 2010

The dominant ridge of high pressure responsible for this unseasonable heat will be undercut by and area of low pressure moving in from southern California later this week.

We'll see increasing clouds and cooler temperatures in the 80s Thursday and Friday, with the chance of some mountain showers.

On Saturday and Sunday, a trough low pressure dropping down from the north will bring a chance of rain to all of northern California, and cool high temperatures back to normal. The expected high on Saturday is 80 degrees.
