Sacramento CTO Encourages Aspiring App Developers

Since the dawn of time, man has kept secrets locked away in all sorts of contraptions, from writing it down in a secret language and leaving it in plain sight to storing it away in a safe. Nowadays, everyone has passwords and important information that only they should be privy to. With an increasing number of devices, applications and accounts to manage, it has become a challenge to keep everything secure and in one place. Thankfully there are apps and programs like "Keeper Password Manager" to manage all that information for us in a safe and secure digital platform. Leading the software engineering team of "Keeper Security" and making sure their app is on the cutting edge of technology and ever secure is Chief Technology Officer, Craig Lurey.

What does your job entail?

"I lead the software engineering team and product roadmap for "Keeper." the world's leading password management app across iPhone, Android, Mac and PC platforms. I write code and work closely with other software developers and designers to create new products and features."

What parts of your job do you enjoy?

"The best part about my job is the satisfaction of building a product that millions of people love to use every day. Our app is a critical part of people's online lives -- storing and protecting their passwords and other private information."

What is your educational history?

"I graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor's in electrical engineering with a focus on digital signal processing."

Do you think your education has helped you in your line of work?

"I believe that my education in electrical engineering taught me how to work hard and build the skills to tackle any problem, no matter how difficult. Everything on the software side was self-taught."

Do you have any advice for someone wanting to pursue a similar career?

"If you want to be an app developer, you need to spend time at night and weekends getting up to speed on the latest Android and iOS development platforms. Take some online courses or tutorials and then create your own app for fun. Use this app as a demonstration of your creativity and passion when seeking a job in the field, and it will pay off."
