Suspect Shot By Deputy In Carmichael Area

3:30 p.m. UPDATE: The suspect shot by a Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputy has died.

The man is described as a 36-year-old African-American male.

Deputies say after a short chase after the suspect eluded a traffic stop, the man got out of the vehicle with a gun pointed at three deputies. Deputies opened fire, though it's unclear if the suspect fired.

When he was wounded, the man fell to the ground and appeared to reach for his weapon again, when deputies opened fire again, killing him.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) - Authorities are investigating a deputy-involved shooting in the Carmichael area.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, the scene is near Cypress and Garfield Avenues. A patrol deputy was reportedly trying to make a traffic stop when the driver took off, sparking a short chase.

The chase ended and the driver then got out. The incident somehow escalated to shots being fired.

Deputies say the suspect is down. The suspect's condition is not known. No deputies were injured in the shooting.

No other information is immediately available.
