Spurned By Downtown Sacramento, River City Brewing Ready To Re-Open In Carmichael

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — It was more than a year ago when owners of River City Brewing where hopeful for the Golden 1 Center and the promise it would bring to Downtown Sacramento.

Then, about nine months later, the owners were told they must close. Their lease was not renewed and the owners were told to get out by the end of June after 23 years.

Now, they've decided to leave downtown entirely for the suburbs with a new location in Carmichael on Fair Oaks Boulevard. They plan on serving their first beer by Dec. 1.

Despite written promises from city leaders, Beth Ayers-Biro says the company's lease was not renewed.

"They gave us our walking papers," she said.

When they moved in June, it was heartbreaking. Now, they're teaming up with several restaurants to form the Milagro Center in Carmichael. The center plans to offers in eclectic taste of cuisine from Mexican to Gelato, and even a coffee shop. There will also be a farm-to-fork venue with produce from local farmers.

Ayers-Biro says it will be similar to the Oxbow Public Market in Napa.

She says the cool thing about the new partnership is most of the local restaurants are from Downtown Sacramento.

"It's kind of like bringing Downtown and Midtown to the suburbs so that people in suburbs don't have to go Downtown and Midtown to get the same feel," she said.
