Hope For Raiders Staying In Oakland May Come From Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Raider Nation is now turning to Sacramento for tips on keeping the team from moving south.

At first glance, Sacramento State communications major Ray Perez looks like a typical college student. But one step into his garage, and his true colors come out—he's better known as Oakland Raiders fan Dr. Death.

He's now a regular at Oakland City Council meetings trying to stop the Raiders from moving to Los Angeles. He's turning to Sacramento Kings fans to learn how to prevent a franchise from leaving.

"The Oakland Raiders situation is so close to the Sacramento Kings situation just in the fact of we look over here in Sacramento and the kings got it done, we can get it done," he said.

As Sacramento's Golden 1 Center goes up, Perez asked Mike Tavares of Sacramento's Crown Downtown grassroots group for help.

"I told Ray, you need to look at something bigger than just the Raiders. You know, what's it going to do for your community?" Tavares said. "We said bigger than basketball; for them it's bigger than football. Think about revitalizing your downtown. The jobs the regional money that will be coming in because you have season ticket holders from all over coming to watch the Raiders games."

The Oakland City Council is expected to view a new $900 million Raiders stadium financing plan this week.
