Are Kaepernick's Days With The 49ers Numbered?

SANTA CLARA (CBS13) – A new report says Turlock's Colin Kaepernick is done with the San Francisco 49ers.

The local kid turned Niner quarterback is virtually certain not to return next year, according to a new report from CBS Sports released Sunday.

The report comes along with Kaepernick's demotion to back-up this week, with the Niners opting for Blaine Gabbert. The move sidelined Kaepernick for the first time since he was named the 49ers starter three years ago.

"No I don't believe in pressure. The pressure's not being prepared for what you want to do," Kaepernick said after Sunday's game.

Kaepernick's rise to fame has given the city of Turlock their own star to embrace. After all, it wasn't long ago he was suiting up for the Pittman High Pride.

Then it was on to the University of Nevada-Reno.

Kaepernick then took the NFL by storm after stepping in for an injured Alex Smith in 2012. He suddenly became a star; Sports illustrated even seemed lost for words.

Now the headline reads, "Kaepernick done in San Francisco." The CBS Sports report includes references to a "frayed relationship" between Kaepernick and franchise management and that rebuilding bridges are "essentially a lost cause."

Fans seem ready to say goodbye.

"We need definitely a better quarterback," a fan said. "But I mean if he sticks with us, I'll support him."

Niners head coach Jim Tomsula was non-committal about who would be the 49ers quarterback going forward the rest of the season, despite Gabbert leading San Francisco to a 17-16 win over the Falcons on Sunday.
