Donald Trump's SNL Appearance Opens Door For Other Candidates To Get Equal Air Time

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Presidential candidates have one week to get free airtime on NBC stations following Donald Trump's appearance on Saturday Night Live on Saturday.

Stations across the nation filed the notices alerting candidates to their opportunity on Monday to the Federal Communications Commission.

Candidates are entitled to the same amount of free air time Trump received during his SNL hosting duties—12 minutes and 5 seconds—but they have seven days to act. The candidates must be registered as candidates in the states where they are seeking airtime, and the stations do not have to grant them the appearance at the same time—in other words, SNL won't be a stream of candidate guest hosts through Easter.

A similar notice has been issued twice in just over a month for Hillary Clinton's appearance on the show—once for the original Oct. 3 air date and once for an Oct. 24 repeat. It's not known if anyone took advantage of the three minutes of airtime.
