Brandon Crawford Wins First Gold Glove

Who would have thought a breakout offensive season will warrant San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford a Gold Glove - a defensive award?

The announcement came Tuesday evening, awarding Crawford the honor over Adeiny Hechavarria of the Miami Marlins and Andrelton Simmons of the Atlanta Braves. This is the first time the Giants have won the award for the shortstop position.

Crawford committed just 13 errors (a career-low) to post a .979 fielding percentage. According to Baseball-Reference, his defensive WAR of 2.9 was best in the league among shortstops.

Other Giants candidates up for a Gold Glove were Buster Posey (who once again lost to Yadier Molina), Matt Duffy (lost to Nolan Arenado) and Brandon Belt (who lost to Paul Goldshmidt).

At least the Giants were represented by somebody among the victors.
