How Can You Spot The Right Dog For You, And How Can You Get It To Obey?

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Dog owners spent lots of time and money trying to get man's best friend to be happy, healthy and obedient.

Whether you're walking 30 dogs at once or one dog, the human needs to be in control. Sometimes that's easier said than done.

Matthew Margolis is one of the most experienced dog trainers, and he just happens to live in our neck of the woods.

He recommends starting training a dog as young as 7 or 8 weeks old. A higher pitch in your voice is also recommended.

He knew his latest addition would be friendly and outgoing, starting with a personality test. Part of that involves a dog that will look at him and not be scared of his voice, or be put on its back gently.

He recommends avoiding a super-quiet dog.

"That's the dog who's gonna have problems because he's fearful insecure probably sound shy—people shy," he said.

Margolis shared a ton more tricks for handling dogs in the video at the top of this page.
