North Highlands Residents Say Stray Cats Have Taken Over Neighborhood

NORTH HIGHLANDS (CBS13) — Residents in one North Highlands neighborhood say stray cats are everywhere, making a mess and fighting with their pets.

Talking to people who live in the neighborhood, they say these stray cats have taken over the street. So many, some are even keeping their own pets inside for safety.

Stray cats are driving people crazy on this street in North Highlands.

Wes Tadlock says he now keeps his own pet cat George inside after a fight with a feral cat caused an infection. He and his wife want the cats gone.

"They've claimed the neighborhood," she said. "Get rid of them; get em out of the neighborhood."

Sacramento County Animal Services recently spayed, neutered and vaccinated several of the feral cats from the street and returned them to the neighborhood. It's part of a national approach called Return to Field meant to control feral cat populations and disease without burdening shelters.
