Ice Blocks Project Developers Optimistic Midtown Sacramento Plan Is Salvageable

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Developers of the Ice Blocks Project in Midtown Sacramento were disappointed to see the momentum they'd built up slowed by a devastating fire.

Investigators have been trying to find a cause for Saturday's fire, but for now it's just a wait-and-see game.

It's a building that dates back 100 years and was in the middle of a makeover. It was going to feature ground-floor retail, two floors of office space and be the headquarters of the Sacramento Republic.

And now, it's a pile of rubble.

Investigators are speaking to witnesses and gathering evidence. The cause remains unknown and it's still not safe for firefighters to enter.

Developers are optimistic that the new blank slate, as they call it, may allow for even greater opportunities and less limitations.
