Turlock Police Warning Women To Be On Guard Following Spate Of Assaults

TURLOCK (CBS13) — Police are warning women to be on high alert after a series of attacks.

The latest attack happened on Wednesday night in the 2800 block of Alta Vista Ave.

Police say some of the attacks are sexual assaults and they're warning women to pay extra attention to their surroundings.

The attacks have happened mostly in neighborhoods in the northwest and southeast parts of town. Five assaults, some sexual in nature, all involved women on foot, usually late at night.

"They're all in public places and this is why it's so important we get the word out—they're happening because it could be anywhere, anytime," said Officer Mayra Lewis.

Though police said they're not aware of any assaults on the CSU Stanislaus campus in Turlock, students are still on edge after hearing the news.

Wednesday night's attack happened near Rose and Sycamore, where we spoke to one neighbor who says her neighbors ran to her door when the attack started.

"I had a knock at my door and evidently there was screaming at the end of the block and two male figures. A woman was screaming at the top of her lungs and they were hearing it in their backyard and came out front," said Sovina Edwards.

The suspect description is vague at this point—a man standing six feet tall. Police say victims have been too traumatized to give a detailed description of the suspect. Police are now looking for any additional past cases that could be connected.
