Call Kurtis: My $1,600 Purebred Puppy Never Showed Up

SOUTH SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Brandon Sherfey says he found the perfect playmate for his dog Waffles. He found an English Bulldog puppy in Pennsylvania through the website Ciara Bulldogs. The seller sent videos of the puppy named Shelby.

"My daughter was carrying a picture of the dog around for a week," he said.

Brandon wired the seller $655, which included money to cover shipping from Pennsylvania. Within days he got an email from Felton Cargo Delivery Service demanding he wire $980.76 for a life insurance policy on the puppy. He sent the money. Then he got an email from United World Animal Rescue saying they received Shelby at a Wisconsin Airport and they wanted even more money to release the dog. This time he didn't send it.

"There's no dog. They're just taking our money and running with it," Brandon said.

We found the website is now gone. We emailed the seller who wouldn't give his or her name, but we got this response.

"I have decided not to give you any details of where the puppy is exactly...This is just sick and ridiculous of your business organization... so you better watch out."

The Sacramento SPCA says before bringing any pet home, you should meet it in person to make sure it's a good fit. After we got involved the seller emailed us again saying "I will be refunding money."

Brandon is still waiting.
