Davis Looking For Answers After Third Attack In Three Months

DAVIS (CBS13) — Another violent attack in Davis has city leaders searching for ways to make their downtown safer two months after restricting more bars and nightclubs from opening in the area.

The City Council put a moratorium in place after September's deadly stabbing at KetMoRee. About three weeks ago, a woman was sexually assaulted in a park after eating at a downtown restaurant.

In the most recent attack, a college student was attacked along Sixth and F streets.

"We went over to just to visit him for the weekend, it was supposed to be just a three-day trip," said Eric Frydendal.

His trip with a buddy to visit a friend in Davis would turn into a nightmare.

"Our original plan was to take a cab. I wish we had just done that instead," he said.

Instead, Frydendal, who is back home in Livermore, says in the early morning hours last week, he and his friends were on their way back from a night of fun only to be attacked by at least two men, at least one with a baseball bat.It happened here around Sixth and F streets just on the edge of downtown Davis.

"I don't remember anything to be honest. They hit us, and two of us had our wallets and phones taken," he said.

Frydendal had bleeding in his brain that nearly required surgery.

"We're taking a lot of steps," said Davis Police Lt. Glenn Glasgow. "We understand the concern especially revolving around the downtown area."
