California Turkey Selected As Bird To Be Pardoned By Pres. Obama

MODESTO (CBS13) - We met a special turkey who is on the cusp of worldwide fame.

Foster Farms in Modesto invited CBS13 to meet the one and only turkey that will soon be pardoned by President Obama this year.

The question that was on our minds was what makes this First Bird so special?

"This is a turkey you can see has beautiful feathering; he has a very confident walk." said a Foster Farms spokesperson. "It's a bird we're very proud to take to the White House...we're very proud to present him to President Obama."

Raised in the Sonoma Valley, the turkey has bold, patriotic red and white coloring and an impressive wingspan, the company says.

The turkey will fly on United Airlines' "Turkey One," to Washington D.C. where he will stay at the Willard Hotel, where presidents stay the night before they are inaugurated. He will then be escorted to the Rose Garden at the White House where President Obama will pardon him.

He'll live out the rest of his days at an estate in Virginia.

This is the second time a Foster Farms turkey has been pardoned by President Obama.
