Gunshots In Area Prompts Lockdown Of 3 Sacramento Schools

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Three schools were put on precautionary lockdown due to a report of shots fired in the area Thursday morning.

Officers are along the 3900 block of 17th Avenue investigating the shooting.

Christian Brothers High School, Father Keith B Kenny K-8 School and Oak Ridge Elementary were ordered to shelter in place just after 7 a.m. Thursday.

Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearm agents were serving a search warrant in the area when the shots were fired. Authorities say an ATF officer shot a suspect in the backyard of a home in the area, noting that the suspect "initiated" the shooting. The agent was not hurt in the incident.

One person was seen being taken away in an ambulance. Authorities have confirmed that it was the suspect that was shot. No specifics on the suspect's condition have been released.

No other suspects are outstanding and police note there was never a direct threat to the public.

The school lockdowns were lifted just before 8 a.m. and classes will go on as planned, according to the Sacramento Unified School District.
