Terror Fears Aside, Travelers Revving Up To Get Away For The Holiday
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) —The Friday before Thanksgiving marks the beginning of holiday travel chaos expected to grip airports and roads for the next week.
Amid the expected congestion are worries after last week's terrorist attack in Paris and last month's bombing of a Russian plane, though there are no credible specific threats against the United States.
Passengers are taking to the skies during what is considered the busiest travel time of the year. They're willing to put their worry aside as airports tighten security.
Becky Hypolite is a travel agent with Crystal Clear Travel in Sacramento. She says she's already getting calls from clients who are concerned, wondering if they should cancel upcoming international trips.
"They are just a little bit more hesitant about going," she said.
She says the decision to travel will depend on the destination and political climate in a country, but she admits it's harder to predict danger when you have an incident like the one in France—a place regarded as a safer destination.
She recommends those planning to travel abroad do one thing.
"If you are getting ready to plan, like some of my customers, then let's make sure we do get insurance because you don't know what's going to happen," she said.
Security officials are recommending leaving early and giving yourself extra time for increased security clearance needs.
It's also recommended to check the state department's website for any foreign travel advisories.
